Senator Terry Rice represents Senate District 9 , which is comprised of Scott County and portions of Crawford, Franklin and Sebastian Counties . H e is serving h is first term in the Senate and is vice chairman of three committees : Senate Insurance and Commerce, Arkansas L e gislative Council and its Executive Subcommit t ee. H is other committee memberships include: Senate Judiciary; Legislative Joint Auditing; Joint Performance R e view; Legislative Joint Auditing - State Agencies and the Health Reform Legislative Ta sk Force . He also serves as an ex officio on 12 other committees and subcommittees . Regionally and nationally, Senator Rice works with legislators from across the country as a member of the Southern Legisl ative Conference (SLC) , the Council of S t ate Governments (CSG) and the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) . He is a member of the Energy and Environment Committee of SLC , the C ommittee on Suggested S t ate Legislation of CSG an d the Na tural Resources and Infrastructure Standing Committee of NCSL . In 2008, Rice was elected to the A rkansas House of Representatives where he served three consecutive terms and represented portions o f seven counties. He hails from a lineage of public s ervants as both his father and grandfather served in the Arkansas Legislature . Senator Rice is the long time co-owner of Rice Furniture in Waldron and a cattle farmer. He is presi d ent of two Rice Furniture & Appliance Stores. Professionally, he is a past president of the Arka n sas Home Furnishings A s sociation and has served on the southeast region board of A s sociated Volume Buyers/Brand Source National Dealer Group . He has received regional and state recognition for his professional accomplishments including Dealer of the Year from various industry associates. 2 Born in Fort Smith, Senator Rice and his wife , JoAnn , have been married for over 40 years and have two sons. They have four grandch ildren and are members of the Bates Baptist Church.
